FAQ
- Frequently Asked Questions
Is
FVCU accredited?
As a new school, we
have applied for accreditation through ACI. ACI, the Accrediting
Commission International, is the world's largest non-governmental
accrediting organization, with over 21,000 students in 168 schools in 9
countries on 5 continents and operates in 35 states within the USA
(including Washington, DC.)
What
is "non-governmental accreditation?"
There
are differences in accrediting agencies that have been approved by the
U.S. Department of Education. These include a group known as
"regional" accreditation agencies,
"national" accreditation agencies, and
"specialized" accreditation agencies. Then there is
a form of accreditation known as "non-governmental." Non-governmental
accreditation is a form of accreditation that allows for schools that
are philosophically opposed to government intervention. This is
especially true of schools with "religious" missions, which believe
their allegiance is to God, and not to a secular authority. Often,
governmental, secular authority can weaken or diminish a Christian
school's ability to teach the truths of God's word in an unhindered
fashion. For this reason, we have chosen to apply for a
non-governmental accreditation.
What
kind of degrees does FVCU grant?
We
grant a Christian Associates Degree in Theology, a Christian Bachelors
Degree in Theology, a Christian Masters Degree in Theology, and a
Christian Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Theology. A "Christian Degree"
distinguishes our degrees as being granted for the purpose of educating
Christian men and women to fulfill a vocation in Christian service,
either as a full time, part time, or lay leadership position in a local
church or ministry to the world at large.
